West’N’Dance weekend at Seacroft Holiday Village, Hemsby September 23rd to 29th 2006
This was another fabulous weekend, hosted by Val Self of West'N'Dance and Jon Keys.

Instructors for the weekend were Liz Clarke, Michelle Risley and Val Self, with Chris Higham as DJ.
Liz taught Next Times, Curious Soul, Heart of an Angel, Strike 1, and Sleepwalking. As a
bonus Lizzie also taught Alan Clarke's “No Matter What” so that we could dance it for him on Sunday when he arrived with Calico.
Michelle taught Spooky, Next To Me and I Loved Her First.
Val taught Rubitin, Everybody's Someone, and Last Request.
One of the highlights of the workshops was when all three got on stage and taught I Don't Feel Like Dancing, each of them taking a wall in turn. But best of all was the Saturday session when Michelle and Lizzie DJ’d for each other. What a great double act! They had us all in stitches.

Diamond Jack entertained us on Friday night with some alternative tracks to current dances; Billy 'Bubba' King on Saturday night was in fine voice, probably the best I have ever heard him. His rendition of Josh Turner’s “Your Man” sent shivers down my back! Even better than the original in my opinion.
On Sunday evening the marvellous Calico brought the house down with a great selection of tracks including “Bad Boy Tango” and “The Reel Thing”. The highlight of the evening though was when they were joined on stage by Jon Keys on drums and Kathy (Michelle’s mum) on tambourine. We at Peace Train have re-named the band “Kathico”! |

And of course all weekend, in between sets, and until the early hours of the morning, the incomparable Chris kept us amused with his selection of music in his own very individual way!!
The atmosphere was lovely and friendly , with people from all over the UK, and a large group from Holland, all joining in the fun. The numbers are limited so there was room on the dance floor for everyone to dance, and a place for everyone to sit comfortably. It was a very happy and pleasantly exhausted group of dancers who left Seacroft on the Monday morning only to find that torrential rain overnight had caused flooding up to five feet deep in places. But it didn’t dampen our enthusiasm and we can’t wait for the next weekend.
